What is PuRRS rescue?
|
|
PuRRS stands for "Purebred Rescue and Relocation Society". We are a part of KitnHevn
Rescue, Inc. and have five board members. We work to take purebred cats, or cats that reasonably appear
to be a "breed", from local shelters and from occasional direct surrenders. These cats are then listed
on our petfinder.com page.
|
Our rescue is operated by hobby breeders. It is considered "politically incorrect" to have a site
like this, where rescue and breeding are in the same site... but I have decided to go ahead and
be "politically incorrect" because I am tired of the villification of breeders that occurs at times.
Not all breeders are irresponsible, and MANY are involved in rescue... but because their sites
are not linked, you will not realize this when you visit them. So, I have decided to "flaunt it",
so to speak. How can someone be both a breeder and a rescuer? My answer is: "How can you NOT?" (The two activities
should be kept strictly seperate, of course!) To explore more issues involving breeder involvement in rescue,
go to our index page, and click on "Animal Rights".

PuRRS rescue has been in operation for a number of years, but we incorporated as part of KitnHevn,
a "not-for-profit" organization, on March 20, 2000. We were granted provisional status as
a 501(c)3 charitable organization on March 30, 2001. We are currently seeking foster home
volunteers in the states of Ohio, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, and Georgia. PuRRS priorities, in order of importance, are as follows:
|
|
Rescue and find forever homes for Turkish Angora cats or any "purebred" cats that
can reasonably be identified as a "breed".
Rescue and find forever homes for "copycat" cats that have some appearance of being a "breed" or a "breed mix".
Rescue and find forever homes for mixed ancestry cats only when they are in life threatening situations. After rescue, these cats are often transferred to another of our local rescue organizations.
Run an e-mail list, to provide a breeder-friendly home on the 'net for purebred cat rescuers, and to eliminate the harassment breeders sometimes experience on other rescue lists.
