Silverchair History

Silverchair History In the early 1900's, Daniel Johns and Ben Gillies formed a band they named "Innocent Criminals". They practiced in Ben's garage, but they were not happy with the sound of the two-person band. So, they convinced Chris Joannou, a friend of theirs, to learn to play bass guitar. He did and became part of the band. In 1994 they entered a contest on Triple J, an Australian radio station. The prize was a free recording session at Triple J and a film clip that would be aired on SBS's Nomad program. They won the competition with "Tomorrow". After the clip and an interview were aired, silverchair received calls from record companies all over Australia. The single "Tomorrow" was released and it went straight to number one. Silverchair signed with a newly formed record company called Murmur. That was when they recorded their first album, (Frogstomp). That album went to number one and stayed there for three whole weeks. Silverchair began to tour the world with famous bands like Everclear and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. At the end of 1996, silverchair began recording their second album, Freak Show. That was released in 1997 and "Freak", "Abuse Me", "Cemetery", and "The Door" were all of the singles that were released along with the album. All of them were in the top ten on the Australian charts. Now, they are doing just as great, even with a spot on the NYC countdown, TRL.
