MY ZINE!- March 28- 2000

I love good theatre. I love the feeling of greatness and calmness that performing in a really good play can bring. Standing in those hot lights, breathing in that warm, thick air and seeing all those eyes looking right at you and knowing that for that moment, you own them. And you own that stage. It's yours, if only for one night.

Alot of people think that the theatre is an escape from reality. That actors like acting because it alows them to be someone else somewhere else than who and where they really are. That performers see their characters as a sheild... a mask from who and what they really are.

Personally, i think nothing could be further from the truth. The theatre isn't the opposite of life, of reality, it is a portrayal of life and reality. Good theatre lets you see yourself and your world. Good theatre is meant to tell you a story, and this, done with grace, dignity, and the merit of realism, is what I love doing. I am not claiming to be the best actor in the world. Sometimes, just like everybody else, I suck. And sometimes I would rather die a thousand deaths then go back out on that stage and participate in that mockery, that joke, of a production. This happens when the theatre is infested with those who do not love it, respect it, or understand it. They are the ones who have caused me to clarify that I do not love theatre. I love good theatre.

This page is dedicated to all of the TQs out there who understand what it means to be weeping uncontrollibly offstage one min. and to go on stage the next with a smile, dry eyes, and a completely different frame of mind. This is for those of you who's first kiss was a stage kiss, and first love was yet another TQ who your director said you couldn't date. This is for those of you threw up because you were so nervous, and who stormed out of the room when you didn't get the part, and stormed right back in every other day for the next month to rehurse your very complex role as "crowd member #9". This, in short, are for all of you who own the stage, and love good theatre. It's rarely ever easy, the hours suck, you will proabably always be poor, and people will laugh at you when you tell them what you want to, or do, do for a living. But hey, if you don't think it's worth it then get the hell out, and to everyone else, pull up a chair and get comfortable, you are going to learn how to lie.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours.........
