I am really sad to hear of the breakup of the company. My Dad gave everything he had to SCOA and never made much money, but it was a family and he loved it. Although he never made more than $15,000 in any year, he never borrowed money from a bank. When my parents bought the one and only house they would ever own in 1932 for $7,000, the company lent him the money and took it out of his pay. We had a new car every three years and a new addition on to the house every five years. My Dad's stores always made money because he took drastic markdowns on merchandise that was over 90 days old. His managers knew what was coming and made sure that the goods had been sold by putting spiffs on them so that it would not effect their bonus. The company went through a bad five-year period in the 60's and didn't pay any bonuses to anyone although my Dad's stores made money. Yet he refused to complain or even get upset. "The company first." They don't make 'em like him anymore. Once you're a shoe dog you can't get out of your blood. I hope you continue with you website. Like you, I would love to hear from some old shoemen. Thanks again, Marshall
