September 27'th, 1999 @ 6:30 a.m. in Jackson county

Marc DeWerth submitted the following sighting he learned of as a result of a newspaper ad he placed. The incident took place between Jackson and Glade during a cool September morning. The witness estimated the height of the creature to be eight to 10 feet and it had a dark color of hair with what he described as a "green hue" to it. He estimated it to weigh 750 pounds and he was as close as four FEET from it!

"Woke up early in the morning to go squirrel hunting. Drove over to my uncles property, parked my car and started walking up on my uncles hill. As I was walking up the hill, I noticed a strange smell in the air. Not thinking about it, I presumed it was my uncles goat. I walked about 75 feet into the woods at a very slow pace and noticed a huge bush to my left about 12 feet away. Then I saw a hand come out of the bush and it apparently started scratching its nose. At that instant it sprang up and landed four feet away from me. (My best guess was that it had no idea I was there and I spooked it.) As it looked at me, it breathed in almost like a whirlwind and let out the strangest growl I had ever heard. Each nostril was probably two inches in diameter. I only had a 12-guage shotgun and didn't want to make it mad, so I closed my eyes and started praying. As I opened my eyes I could see its back to me making its way through the woods as it was leaping away at great distances. I could see its heading bobbing in the air with every jump. In a matter of seconds, it was out of view and it became real quiet in the woods. After that incident I never saw or heard any animals so I quickly left the area."

The witness described the facial details as "ape and human mix with wide spread eyes. It had a big nose, almost like an african / american. Brown leather like skin around the eyes and nose. The head sat on the shoulders like a really built body builder."
