March 30'th, 1999 Washington County Between 2 and 3 a.m.
The following sighting report was first
related to members of the Tri-State
Bigfoot Study Group at the
monthly meeting in April, 1999. Richard J.
LaMonica reports the sighting of what 'might'
be a Bigfoot creature in the following
e-mail.
In the early morning hours between 2 and 3
a.m. I had just left the Food 4 Less grocery
store in Marietta, Ohio to drive to my next
stop in Sardis, Ohio. Sardis is about a 50
minute drive north on state route 7 from
Marietta. Route 7 runs parallel to the Ohio
River all the way to Steubenville, Ohio and
runs also through Wayne National Forest near
Marietta and Newport, Ohio and northward. The
day was Tuesday March 30'th. I had just
passed through New Matamoros, Ohio and had
about 50 more minutes to go til I reached my
destination at Klugs Country Pride grocery. A
few miles after you pass through New Mat a
driver will come to a rest area. It is a very
small rest area of which only 6
tractor/trailers can park. As I was
approaching this rest area, and I believe I
was 75 to 100 yards from the entrance, I
witnessed a figure of unknown origin, as it
walked in three steps from left to right
across the street. As I have always been
known to keep a look out for such things I
floored my truck to see if I could see what
or who it was. I achieved 70 m.p.h. in that
short stretch. I was already going 55 m.p.h.
at the time I glimpsed it start to cross. As
it was directly in front of me and under a
street light I saw the figuer clearly but
only as being black. I did however see the
light on the road as its stride opened up. I
should have been able to see who it was, as I
was upon it and the spot in no time. However
upon arrival to the spot I saw nothing. I do
not think it was a truck driver as at the
time there were only two trucks by the marker
lights showing in the rest area and I am sure
if one of them was to get into a truck at
that time, I may have been able to see the
interior light come on, but I did not. That
is basically all of what the sighting
entailed. I did not see its features. I am
only sure that it was alive and it was easily
seen under the street light, of which there
were two. It walked under the second lamp,
down aways from the entrance to the rest
area.
UPDATE May 1'st, 1999
The road is 27' wide from berm to berm. The
witness said it took him nine (9) steps to
cross the road, where as it took the black
individual only three (3) steps to cross the
road.
