The Ladybird (adalia bipuncta)
The lady bug is one of the beetles that are most beneficial to mankind, eating many of the pests, like locusts that plague our farming industry's crops. The beetles are quite cute little beasties, with their oval to circular outlines and shiny, brightly patterned wingcovers. The pretty wing covers are, in most species, deep red to pale yellow with black spots .There are hundreds of species of ladybugs around the world, the most common in Australia being the 9 to 15 spot varieties, but there many others, as pictured below.
