Johnson's Island

Located in Sandusky Bay, Lake Erie, Ohio, Johnson's Island housed about 3,000 soldiers during its wartime span.

The prison recieved a number of Confederate General's, and other high ranking officers. Very few escapes were attempted, but at least 1 or 2 are known to have worked (one being featured in 2 articles of the '98 Civil War Illustrated Magazine).

Today, archaeology and preservation is being done on the island. The Island's cemetary is open to the public.
