Ft. Delaware Prison

Ft. Delaware, which was given the nickname "Andersonville of the North", was opened sometime in April, 1862. Over 22,700 prisoners were retained in Ft. Delaware during its span of existance, and 2346 of these men, died.

Seeing as Ft. Delaware was on an island (Pea Path Island), the dead had to be transported somewhere else. They were moved across the river, to Ft. Mott, New Jersey. All of the dead Confederates were buried in trenches, and all indiviual documentation has been lost to the ages.
