Our golf league completed the eleventh
consecutive year at Valley View Golf Course this year. For the first time,
league voted to compete as individuals in four different fights, instead
of doing battle as teams. All four fights were extremely competitive, right
up to the final position round on September 11th.
The four fight winners were Roger
McAffe, Dave Hill, Alvie Blankenship and Bruce Oatney. Roger held off Charlie
Walker to win his fight, Dave Hill edge Darrin Hunt to take his flight
(their match came down to the next to last hole where, if the scores had
been reversed, Darrin would have won), Alvie overcame a one and a half
point deficit against Don Ireland to edge out Mike Boerstler by a single
point and Bruce took the final fight by beating Jon Feeman, enabling him
to beat back a challenge by Kevin Phelps, who scored sixteen points in
the final rounds and end up in second.
Our banquet was held at the
Lodge on October 2nd. Among those recognized for special achievements were
Dale garner as the most improved golfer. Dale barely got by Alvie Blankenship,
Don Ireland and george Bigerton for that honor. Charlie Walker was noted
as the most consistent golfer. He finished the year with exactly the same
handicap as he started the year with (6.83). While his handicap never move
off seven for the entire year, Kevin Phelps had the low handicap round
on the front nine, Fred Swyers the low handicap on the back nine. Roger
McAfee the low gross round on the back nine. Roger and Randy Tisdale the
low gross round on the front nine. Phelps also won a special door prize
( a pink golf bag) for worse round of the year - 71. Look for Kevin carrying
that bag on the golf course next year!
Please check next month's newsletter
for information on the league's organizational meeting for the 2001 season.
The Rules Committee will be recommending several changes for next year,
so it is important that anyone planning on participating in the league
next season plan on attending that meeting. See you there!
