| Beethoven at 4 days |
Beethoven was whelped on August 27, 1997. He was the 5th pup
in a litter of 6. He weighed 5 ounces at birth. Beethoven is "Tri"
colored. This means that his color is black, white and tan. We believe him to be
tri factored but that is yet to be proven. While he is really still just a pup
and has some maturing to do, he shows much promise for the show ring. He is by
far our favorite male.
Beethoven is a special sheltie. While most shelties are intelligent and
obedient, Beethoven is extremely eager to please. He has a happy-go-lucky
personality and is only slightly reserved in nature. He has never met a stranger
and gets along with people and other animals equally well. He does not show an
intense need to herd, but he is very protective of his family while being gentle
and affectionate. Once introduced to someone, he is a friend to all and loves
children.
Beethoven stands at 15 5/8 inches, just barely meeting the height requirements
for the show ring. He is large boned which is a very desirable quality in a
male. His ears are completely natural with a perfect tip and are set high and
close together. His eyes are almond shaped and the size is desireable. The stop
matches his snout perfectly. His expression is unique and quizzical. When he
looks at you it is as if he is anticipating your every word which creates the
perfect sheltie expression with just a hint of the famous sheltie smile. His
teeth are perfectly aligned and his jaw is firm and smooth. His tail nearly
touches the ground, and he has a thick and abundant coat. His gate is still
somewhat rough as he is just a teenager and has not yet grown into his legs!
