Mike returns to Salem ready to propose to Carrie, only to find her and Austin celebrating. However, he is unaware that the two have only decided to be friends. Mike eventually talks with Carrie, who tells him that she and Austin are only friends. Mike and Carrie rekindle their love. Mike proposes, but she turns him down for the time being.
Carrie decides to leave Salem for awhile and says goodbye to her family. Mike and Carrie ride off into the sunset together.
Austin realizes he and Carrie can never go back, which is music to Sami's ears.
