Late August

It is late August
And overcast and raining again
It seems somehow fitting that after
The bright light of July afternoons
That burn in memory
Washed in white hot brightness
Like an overexposed print
That the summer somehow slowly sink
Into cool wetness that is September
And the photonegative twilights
That grow to autumn evenings
