Poetic Passions

These are some of my favorite poems, ones that I think deserve the highest awards and honors. Some are lyrics, some are by well known poets, and some are just my own creations. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do.

Brave Soldier

Danielle Gardner

I look up into the endless sky, and see the stars twinkeling like diamonds.
Your face appears in my mind,
As the summer winds encompass me in a circle of warmth,
I imagine your strong arms holding me close.
I begin to think of the lands a far,
Wondering were exactly in this world you are.
Are you safe?
Are you scared?
Will you come back to me,
Or will I only have bittersweet memories of long nights spent together beneath the stars?
Look up into the sky, my love, when you are frightened or long for home.
I will always be here under the twinkeling lights,
Waiting for you, mr brave soldier, to return to me forever.

Oceans of Time

Michael Johnathon

The hand I hold,
the Love I touch
the kiss that's worth lingering
The song I sing
a gift I bring
of Love worth remembering

Every night
I hold you
in my arms I pray
For Oceans of Time and One More Day

The heart I feel
soft and slow
a Ring forever keeping
The you I love
of soul and blood
the friend that I've been seeking

Every night I hold you
in my arms I pray
For Oceans of time and One More Day

and you and I became one today
and we have angel wings to fly
and if I could have a single wish I'd pray
For Oceans of time and One More Day

I am your friend
and I'll be true
I will never leave you
and to the end
side by side
this promise I shall give to you

that Every night I'll hold you
in my arms and pray
Fore Oceans of Time and One More Day

The Night Has a Thousand Eyes

Francis William Bourdillon

The night has a thousand eyes,
And the day but one;
Yet the light of the bright world dies
With the dying sun.

The mind has a thousand eyes,
And the heart but one;
Yet the light of a whole life dies
When love is done.

If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking

Emily Dickinson

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or helpone fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

Fire and Ice

Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

A Friend is a Treasure

Jean kyler McManus

A friend is someone
we turn to
When our spirits
need a lift',
A friend is someone
we treasure
For our friendship
is a gift,
A friend is someone
who fills our lives
With beauty,
joy, and grace
And makes the world
that we live in
A better
and happier place.

You Can

Erik Tyme

You can wish a star to grant your dreams
while the nights coolness warms you
you can dance among flowers in the spring
as the bees and dragonflys do

You can close your eyes to silent symphonies
playing colorfully grand sounds
you can create the most memorible of memories
that any mind has ever found

You can anything born of the heart
and you know this is all absolutely true
when you have accepted why you were given a start
at being that which is uniquely you

I like to have fun

Erik Tyme

I like to dance in the pouring rain
toss off my cloths and get a little insane
I like to have some fun
feeling how great it is to be alive
I like to dream of the things I'm gonna do before I die

I like to smell the flowers that I grow
face the wind and make angels in the snow
I like to have some fun
living today while planning for tomorrow
I like to act in a manner that avoids creating sorrow

I like to watch river otters at play
laugh real hard from it throughout the day
I like to have some fun
realizing I'm not alone on this rock in space
I like to know children will enjoy this wonderful place

I like to vote because I have the right
and being involved helps me sleep at night
I like to have some fun
showing how I like to be alive
I like to know I've done something before I die

Slow Dance

Unknown

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round
Or listened to the rain slapping the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last

Do you run through each day on the fly
When you ask "How are you? do you hear the reply?
When the day is done, do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores running through your head?

You'd better slow down
Dont' dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last

Ever told your child,
We'll do it tomorrow
And in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
'Cause you never had time to call and say "Hi"?

You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there

When you worry and hurry through your day
It is like an upopened gift
Thrown away

Life is not a race
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over

Confusion

Unknown

My knees start to shake,
when you're in sight.
My mind's filled with wonder,
my heart with fright.

When will this feeling stop?
When did it start?
How can i listen to my mind,
without breaking my heart?

I'm so confused,
what should I do?
I can't think of anything,
except of you.

Should I ignore you?
Or just give it time?
I can't think straight,
my heart controls my mind!

Starlit Night

Unknown

The night is bright
with a starlit sky
I sit and think
As time passes by
Oh starry night
With a moonlit sky
Take me away
And tell me why
Give me a reason
For why I lost a friend
I sit and think
All night long
About the things
That all went wrong
Starlit sky
Give me a reason why
