Nothing and Everything at Once

Chapter 7

Trisha had never felt stranger about a date in all her life. “This is the dumbest thing I have ever done. What if this guy is a rapist? What if he’s a murderer? I don’t even know his name. Oh my God, what have I done?”

She threw her closet apart trying to find something which would be suitable for the restaurant but not too “inviting” to her date, whoever her was. She finally picked out a black skirt and shirt, thinning and cute, but not too sexy.

She drove to the Olive Garden and waited at the enterance. Since she was about 15 minutes early she figured she would wait for him. As soon as he comes here I can explain that this was a mistake and that I’m sorry but I’ll have to leave. But then since I already spent the time to get ready and am here I might as well eat with him anyway. It’s a public place, what could happen? A tap on her shoulder brought her from her thoughts and she jumped.

“A bit edgy tonight, are we?” She swirled around to see the man from the grocery store smirking at her. She became aware she probably looked like a nervous wreck and he knew exactly what she was thinking.

“I’m sorry, I was just..” She trailed off.

“Don’t worry I’m not a murderer or a rapist or whatever else you’ve been thinking. I’m just a guitar player and a singer.”

Her face brightened. “Guitar?”

They sat together towards the back of the restaurant, engulfed in musical conversation. He’d never met someone who had as much passion for the art as he did, until Trish.

“My friends and I are in a band. We’re not signed, but we’re working on it.”

“Really? That’s great, my brothers and I are in a band. We’re actually touring a bit right now.”

“I hear touring’s tough.”

“Long days but a lot of fun.”

Their food came and they discussed songs and the different places that he’d been. His name was Isaac, and he sang with his brothers. Trish was intrigued at all the places he’d been.

“I hope I get to see all those places someday, they sound great.”

“You never know, it could happen.” He smiled as they walked to her car.

“Thanks Isaac,”

“Ike.”

“Ike. I had a really great time. You had no idea how scared I was coming here.”

“I think the expression on your face when I tapped your shoulder gave me a pretty good idea.”

They laughed. “Well, here’s my number. If you’re ever in town again or you just want to chat.”

“Yeah, I’ll see you around Trish.”

Who would have thought that in a set up so strange the result could have been so amazing? But Trish promised herself, she was never EVER accepting dates that way again.
