Trisha looked up from her guitar and shook her hands. Countless hours
of playing had left her fingers numb and callassed. There was a song
forming in her head, but she couldn't get it out. Her music sheets remained
blank, just like her homework. It was a treacherous circle. Everytime she
started her homework the notes began to pour into her brain. But as soon as
she touched her guitar they all vanished without a trace.
"Trish! It's time to go to bed!"
The clock's green lights showed 11:37. She had to get up at 5:00 the next
morning for school.
"My homework isn't done yet." she grumbled. "This band thing is causing
me more grief than pleasure."
She made a half hearted attempt to finish her math before she fell asleep
in her book.
Mrs. Cornwell looked in on her daughter. Her grades were falling. She
had recently thrown herself into music. So completely, in fact, that every thing else had been forgotten in the process. Mrs. Cornwell was worried. None
of the other girls in the group with as obsessed with the music as Trisha was.
Closing the door she turned out the lights. This was the third time this
week that Trisha had fallen asleep before being able to get into bed.
