With QB Tim Couch finished for the season, here's a Rookie Year Tale of the Tape comparison versus Indy's Peyton Manning.

Peyton Manning Tim Couch
No. 1 pick in 1998 No. 1 pick in 1999
326 Completions 223 completions
575 Attempts 399 Attempts
56.7% Completions 55.9% Completions
3,739 Yards 2,447 Yards
26 TDs 15 TDs
28 Interceptions 13 Interceptions
11.47 Yds/Completion 10.97 Yds/Completion
71.2 QB Rating 73.2 QB Rating

Considering that Manning last year had Marshall Faulk at RB and Marvin Harrison at WR, an argument can be made that Couch has had a more impressive rookie campaign.

Browns fans are honored with a plaque on the new Stadium that was dedicated at the team's first home exhibition game on Aug. 21.  The stainless steel plaque, 32 inches wide and 26 inches high, will bear the following inscription commissioned by Cleveland Mayor Michael White:

In 1995, Browns fans across the nation banded together in a vigilant fight for the return of our team ... our name ... and our colors.

We refused to let the grand tradition and proud franchise that had been part of our City's fabric for half a century be destroyed. We sent a message to the entire country that unsurpassed fan loyalty, community support and history matter.

We proved that the Browns belong in Cleveland, the home of the greatest fans in the world.

Today, our Browns have come home to a facility built on a foundation of dreams at the brink of a new Millennium. We welcome a new era of success for the Cleveland Browns and a new era of memories for fans and future generations of Clevelanders.

Cleveland Browns Stadium is dedicated to the invincible spirit of Browns fans who, through their perseverance and tenacity, refused to say goodbye.

OUR TEAM . . . OUR NAME . . . OUR COLORS.

August 21, 1999.
