My Poems Page 62

    The Little Church

    So sweet sounded the music
    Coming from that old church
    Remembrance comes so easy
As back in my mind I do search

    Precious Memories I can hear
    Sung with feelings from above
Touching the strings of my heart
Filling my whole being with love

If only to go back to those days
Serene peace I would then find
See the people I so dearly love
These dreams I see in my mind

That little church is still standing
As if a memorial for us all to see
    Bringing back all these memories
Smiles these thoughts bring to me

    The Preacher

So many times I saw him
    Walking there in the night
On his way down to church
An oil lantern was his light

    Weather made no difference
Could be rain or a deep snow
If there was church that night
You knew he was going to go

I could hear his voice singing
As he walked along his way
    A hymn about precious Jesus
Words I could hear him say

His home is now up in heaven
No lanterns show him the way
    Beautiful where he is walking
Love shows on his face today

    A Mother

The tides of time bring but a dream
Thoughts of the ones we hold dear
Faced with the knowledge of this life
Wondering why she is no longer here

Gone is the happiness we once knew
Vanished with but a blink of an eye
Looking back on all the great times
We brush back the tears as we cry

A loving mother we know she was
A sweet grandmother this is true
Though life had been a struggle
Her love had shown right through

Think only of great times with her
Know some day with her you will be
To walk together on those golden stairs
The greatest happiness you will then see

    Beautiful Spring

I see the glow in the eastern sky
    Bringing us another beautiful day
Daylight will now replace the dark
The rising sun is well on its way

The day will bring to us brightness
The earth will be warmed by the sun
We will see the snow begin to melt
Water in the creek will start to run

Yellow Jonquil will show their head
Showing us that spring is on its way
Soon the birds will build their nest
Mother robin her eggs she will lay

Lawn mowers soon will be running
Buds will soon became leafs of green
The world is coming alive once again
No greater beauty have I ever seen

    A Spring Dream

I walk down that same old lane
That I walked so many years ago
I see the white and pink azaleas
    Beautiful flowers there still grow

I smell the perfume of the lilac
That drifts with the spring breeze
The world is so beautiful today
To my eye it surely does please

I hear a bob white call his mate
The sun shines in the sky above
Ahead of me a boy and girl walk
Arm in arm as if they are in love

Sights and sounds of a spring day
    Bring back thoughts of yesterday
I smile as I think of long time past
    Does things really change anyway

    Lost Love

His heart carries a heavy load
His world has been torn apart
So much tragedy has beset him
Now she has broken his heart

She left him in the summertime
There was no reason for her to go
His love he had given her freely
This he was sure she did know

Time seems to always take away
The things in life we love the best
    Hearts are sometimes broken apart
Somehow we seem to fail the test

She is gone away and will not return
He knows for him there is no other
His love for her will never waive
Until with dirt his body they do cover

    The Old-time Band

We sat on that old front porch
In the warmth of the afternoon
A hint of a breeze was blowing
    Company would be coming soon

Jim would bring his old flat top
We can see Art resin up his bow
Harold will bring his five string
Playing all the music we love so

Bluegrass was our kind of music
They would play all night long
    Tom brought along his mandolin
Molly sang a pretty country song

I can close my eyes and see them
It seems like it was only yesterday
Beautiful music drifting in the air
As that old time band begins to play

    Her Dream

You can still see it in her smile
Her heart filled with loving care
So beautiful in time long ago
Now silver has colored her hair

She sits and thinks of time past
How she met him that spring day
A tall and handsome man he was
A sweet smile she sent his way

Two hearts met and fell in love
A wonderful world did they see
She was such a beautiful bride
He was as happy as he could be

The years were so good to them
Blessed with two girls and a boy
A union of true and complete love
Their lives were so filled with joy

It seemed it happened so quickly
Tiredness had shown on his brow
His time on this earth then ended
It didn't seem to be right somehow

With dreams of the past she endures
Knowing soon she will see him again
That wonderful day with him forever
In heaven, their eternal life will begin

    His World

    The beauty of the world
    Is filled with fascination
    From the biggest country
    Down to an island nation

    Beautiful are the mountains
    Down to the shinning seas
    Plants and animals abound
As do the birds and the bees

Sky above is an azure blue
No clouds do we see today
    Sounds we hear surround us
    So pleasant this lovely day

Surrounded by all of the beauty
He has made for us all to see
    You must know and understand
    How beautiful Heaven must be

    Springtime

The sights of spring are showing
Flower buds are bursting all over
The green of the lawns is showing
Fields will soon be filled with clover

The hills are coming alive with color
The red buds are beginning to bloom
The white dogwood looks so beautiful
It looks like winter has met it doom

The sounds of spring are now in the air
A mother robin has begun to build a nest
The whirring of the lawn mowers we hear
It is the season we all like the very best

Sights and sounds this time of the year
Bring thoughts of romance to the heart
How wonderful springtime is to us all
We seem to get a refreshing new start
