Juana - Kino's faithful wife,
who lives within her means. She shows her strong character when she deals
with her son's infliction from the scorpion's bite. She right away tries
to suck the poison out of his neck by her mouth. The words spoken in the
novel that helped me to understand the character better were, "She out her
lips down over the puncture and sucked hard and spat and sucked again while
Coyotito screamed". This line shows the strong side of Juana.
It also proves a point that she is willing to do anything for her family.
Her interaction with her husband is very good since she is willing to do
anything for him. She is very obedient and hardworking. Moreover,
even when she disagrees with her husband she still sticks by his side. By
the end of the story Juana loses hope in life. She no longer believes
that she may be destined to a happy live. However, she is still obedient
and loving to her husband even thought one of his bullets to kill the trackers
kills her only child. In my opinion Juana had a good character because
she was respectful and loving. However, I believe that if she were more
stubborn of her own opinion then her son would still be alive. From the
first time when she saw that the pearl was bringing evil she wanted to throw it
away but she didn't because of Kino's wishes. However, is she wouldn't'
listen to him but follow her own ways none of the murders would occur.
