The World Interest Club is a group of individuals who come together to rejoice in the thrill of debate, rhetoric, current events, global policies, and awkward social functions with one another. Each year an elite group of club members are chosen to attend Model United Nations Conferences at some of the top universities around the country. In past years the club has gone to Brown Univ., Harvard Univ., Univ. of Chicago, Georgetown Univ., and Univ. of Virginia. These conferences try to act as a microcosm of the real world. Delegates are assigned a country to represent and are put in committees with respective topics ranging from landmines to problems associated with low birth weight. Through research and hard work, delegates become familiar with their country’s policy on the matter and are prepared to represent their country at the conference.
However, WIC is certainly not all work, no play. Throughout the year, various events are organized to bring WICers together to enjoy each other’s company. A club event could be 40 kids going to the movies or even just out to eat. Furthermore, on the trips themselves, there is ample free time for everyone to get to know one another and become even closer friends.
