Auto-destruct syringes, shields, and other
medical products that save lives.

A "safe injection" is defined as an injection that does not harm the recipient or the health care provider, and does not leave any waste products that could harm the community.

Unique Marketing Enterprises, Inc. (UMEI) has developed a portfolio of syringes and other products that are in many ways better than any of those currently on the market. Its patented syringe designs prevent reuse by the disconnection of the syringe piston when the plunger is pushed forward. In addition, these syringes can be fitted with UMEI's Sliding Shields, providing maximum protection to the health care worker. A conversion kit can also be provided to allow manufacturers to incorporate these designs into their own syringe barrels.

UMEI has been creating, revising, and refining its product line for almost a decade. These devices have been made with both patients and healthcare workers in mind, being safe as well as easy to use, minimizing accidental needle sticks. As more and more states pass laws that require single-use syringes, protective shields, and other safeguards, UMEI will be well-positioned with its proven product line to provide large manufacturers with the most effective devices at a low cost per unit.

UMEI's competitive advantage lies not only in its refined products, but in the fact that both the shields and the syringe conversions can be fitted into many popular syringe barrels. This makes it possible for manufacturers to begin using these products immediately at nominal cost.

UMEI's employees are volunteers with professional careers in their respective fields who are united in their commitment to this cause. The importance of the worldwide use of auto-disable syringes should not be underestimated. Over 600,000 health-care workers alone are victims of accidental needle sticks each year (Plastics News, 7/12/99). Several states, including California and Texas, now require the use of safety syringes and needles in healthcare facilities.

As the healthcare industry progresses through this large-scale conversion, these products will likely be in short supply. Hospitals and other organizations have kept this issue dormant, fearing higher costs. However, both the realization that lack of protection costs more in the long run, as well as new legislation that makes these products mandatory, will cause many healthcare organizations to rethink their policies.

The Unique Needle™

The patented single-use "Unique Needle" with sliding shield. After injection, the plunger automatically disconnects, preventing refill and reuse. Then, the shield slides forward and  locks into place, preventing accidental needle sticks.

The Unique Needle was FDA 510k approved in December, 1995. The syringe can be mass-produced in any size. In addition, the technology can be fitted into existing syringes that are currently on the market, making licensing by other manufacturers easy and cost-effective.

UMEI has also developed other products, such as the patent-pending "Needle Adaptor", which is a one piece shield device that can be used on existing needles. UMEI has also made available a low-cost conversion kit which can transform any existing syringe into an easy-to-use, auto-disable safety syringe. Contact us for more info.

Countless studies have shown that thousands of lives are lost each year
and millions more are infected with disease because of the use of contaminated
syringes. Using auto-disable syringes saves lives.
