Lets start from the beginning, My dream it came true, to drive down to Texas, just to see you.
The drive was not easy, was not really great, high winds, rain, tornados, from state to state.
The rain was so hard, at times could not see, how far to a wayside, I gotta go pee.
I asked sister Shawnda, if it was ok to come and surprise you with a roses boquet.
Yes yall come on down, she will love it of course, and I’m glad that I did, I have no remorse.
My heart was racing, The plan has gone well, "Will she still love me?" To early to tell.
The roses were red, your dress white and blue. It was worth every mile, to come surprise you!
Your brown eyes they sparkled, with "I’m glad you’re here", I made everyone happy, with jerkey and beer.
Though our plans had changed drastically, It was kinda neat, to drive way down to Texas to tickle your feet.
In lifes game of baseball, it is all about, it threw you some cancer, in hopes you’d be out.
I stood right there with you, we won’t let this get by. And called on our helper, from up in the sky.
The first strike was cancer, the second was the surgery, the day we would to meet.
Will you strike out now? I won’t let you get beat. I said hang in there Deena, don’t give up today, it’s gonna get better, I’ve got relief on the way.
It will work out you’ll see, your fans said their prayers, your biggest was me.
I told many people, from all over the place, Deena is scared, it’s a tough thing to face.
Our relief man came in, took you by the hand, held on to that bat, You hit a GRAND SLAM! You rounded the bases, you were hurtin like hell, but when you reached home, it was special and swell.
Because waiting for you was a fan yet to meet. A man there with roses, and a kiss that was sweet!
You had never met him, till that very day, he said he’d be with you, all of the way.
So many have said that, but none of it true. But I kept my promise, that I made to you.
We did lots of kissing, and hugging that day. No need for the words, they’d just get in the way.
Then the kids all came in, they were happy to see, their mom was OK, and they got to meet me.
The kids thought it was fun, to watch our embrace. They said he French kissed you, and got red in the face.
They knocked on the windows and said we’ve seen enough, of you two crazed lovers, just strutting your stuff.
We kissed under the stars, in that big Texas sky, it was harder than ever, to just say good bye.
I went back to my room, and thought man that was fun, and said thank you dear God, for all that you’ve done.
I thought about it all, and what had just taken place. The warmth in our hearts, The look on her face.
A miracle has happened, from Heaven above, a life has been spared, because of his love.
I got up that morning, drove right over there, just out of the shower, can I comb your hair? It was long and so silky, so soft and so pure,This hair in my hands, was an angels for sure!
We went to the park, on that sunny day. I knew it inside, this was our lucky day.
We fed ducks and the fish, and I made a nice wish, for next to a waterfall, I asked for a kiss. I’d never kissed here, she said with a smile, so I held her and kissed her, this lasted a while.
Our lips they got tested, a test we did pass, Your beautiful and gutsy, a gal with great class.
She had to go home now, she needed her rest, the meds were kicking in, I was with the BEST!
We went back to Shawnda’s, kissed and said our good byes, and I held them back, the tears in my eyes.
The drive back to Wisconsin, it was very long. But I think of sweet Deena, in A George Strait song.
Not a day or night goes by, that I don’t think of you. We’ve smiled, laughed and cried, and said Honey I LOVE YOU!
Now when you tell this story, and tell them it’s true.
How a man drove 3 thousand miles, just to surprise you.
The heart has many reasons, which reasons can’t explain. Some say I’m in love, while others insane.
And if I had to choose, I’d say they both are true.
I would not let this dread disease, stop me from seeing you.
The relay for life, I’ll be there for sure, walking in Deena’s Honor! In hopes for a cure.
The luminaries’ light the way, on the shore of our Great Lake.
Superior, that’s Deena, all real, nothing fake.
It is time now to end this, I have only one answer, That through our faith in God, Deena YOU Survived Cancer!
I Love You very much Sweetheart!
Love always,
Dave
