One Hundred Fifty Years of Saint Ignatius Loyola
Parish
is Highlighted During Hicksville’s Memorial Day
Parade!

Monsignor Donald T. Bennett, Father Jose P. Quilcate,
Sister Mary Ann Noonan, and numerous parishioners,
school families, and students in uniform gathered
together on the morning of May 25, 2009 to march in
the Hicksville Memorial Day Parade in honour of
Saint Ignatius Loyola Parish’s 150th Year
Anniversary of bringing Christ Jesus to the people
in the community of Hicksville!
Although slightly overcast, it was an absolutely
beautiful day as everyone lined up in formation
behind the Parish Banner and Monsignor Bennett, who
was chauffeured in great style by Mr. John Mahoney
in his stately burgundy 1931 Chevy Classic .
Following close behind was a miniature replica of
our beautiful church, built by Mr. Chris Brady of
Shamrock Construction, which was perched atop a
pick-up truck loaned by Mr. Terence Farrell and
driven by Mr. Christopher Younghans. Students from
the Saint Ignatius Loyola School Band and Twirlers
marched behind the School’s 100th
Anniversary Banner, followed by school families and
parishioners.
Spectators who lined the parade route cheered as
the Saint Ignatius Loyola contingency marched south
down Broadway past the church, where they were
greeted by more supportive parishioners. The group
then turned west onto Old Country Road, and then
continued south on Jerusalem Avenue, ending at the Hicksville Middle School, but not before the
students in the School Band stopped and played in
front of the Grandstand, demonstrating their
nurtured talents to all in attendance.
Participation in the Memorial Day Parade was yet
another wonderful event in the Parish’s yearlong 150th
Anniversary Celebration. It truly was:
All for the
Greater Glory of God!!!
God Bless Saint Ignatius of Loyola Parish! God
Bless the USA!
