Saint Ignatius Loyola
Parish Participates in the
Annual March for Life in Washington DC
It was an “absolutely beautiful day”, when on
January 22, 2009, Deacon George A. Mais and more
than thirty parishioners of Saint Ignatius Loyola
Parish participated in the 36th Annual
March for Life in Washington DC. Upon arrival, the
group was greeted by the Most Reverend William F.
Murphy, Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre,
and the Most Reverend John C. Dunne, Auxiliary
Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, as they
prepared to gather on the National Mall to rally
alongside more than 250,000 people in opposition to
the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized
abortion and has thus claimed the lives of more than
50 million unborn babies. After numerous speeches
by various political leaders the group participated
in a peaceful march around the Capital Building,
ending by the Supreme Court building, while praying
with those committed to preserving the sanctity
of human life, from the moment of conception to the
moment of natural death.
