A big hit for Goodspeed in 1975, Very Good Eddie made its way to Broadway and on to London. Chaos ensues when two honeymooning couples cross paths and trade partners...accidentally. The vaudeville adventure continues while the mismatched couples find their way to each other and somehow, true love prevails. With a bright and lively score by Jerome Kern and plenty of song and dance, Very Good Eddie is certain to become a Goodspeed hit all over again!
Emmy Award-winner Randy Rogel will portray Eddie Kettle. A recipient of the Peabody Award for his work in television, Rogel was a writer and composer for Warner Bros. on numerous hit shows, including
“Batman", Steven Spielberg’s “Animaniacs,” and “Pinky and the Brain.” He now works regularly for the Walt Disney Studio, writing and composing for a plethora of television series and films. Theatrically Rogel has performed the roles of Cosmo Brown in Singin’ in the Rain and Bill Snibson in Me and My Girl in many theatres around the country.
Reviews:
New Haven Advocate, July 10, 2003 - "The cast at the Goodspeed revival includes the multi-talented Randy Rogel as Eddie Kettle. Among other credits, Rogel co-wrote and composed those wacky songs on Animaniacs. At rehearsals he displayed an appropriately nimble and classy dance pedigree."
New York Times, August 24, 2003 - Randy Rogel, nonchalant and deft at being a functional schlemiel, negotiates Eddie's sad-sack submissiveness without becoming an irritant. Wait for the rapturous interlude when Eddie and his Elsie (Alison Walla) dance a dreamy "Babes in the Wood", a slight departure in daffy period music that revels in operetta style, yet foretells the inventive scores that shaped musical theater.
