I
have spoken to you and visualized you on a regular basis. Now, it's
time for me to write you. Come June, it'll have been two years since
you had your accident. To this day, I remember your last words to
me and Dad as you walked out the door. They were "I LOVE YOU!"
Those are the same words I visualize you saying just before you left this
world. Every day I wonder if you know how much I love you.
I didn't tell you that very often, did I?! Well, I'm learning how
to say it more often now!
Did Grandpa
Schwartz meet you when you arrived? Though you were born two months
after he passed away, you were ‘introduced' to him on your way home from
the hospital. In fact, you should remember that Mardi and Daryl were
also ‘introduced' to Grandpa Schwartz on their way home from the hospital
as well!
Not only do
I hope that Grandpa Schwartz met you, but I hope you both met your Aunt
Penny upon her arrival. In May of 1999, just ten months after your
accident, my sister, your aunt, decided she just couldn't take any
more pain or surgeries. Are you aware of the fact that she has a
picture of you with her?
You know, ever
since I was little, I fantasized about the year 2000. I even looked
forward to its arrival. However, it just isn't what I had anticipated.
Maybe it has to do with the fact that I turned 50 last December.
To be honest, though, I really think it's because I couldn't share it with
Grandpa, you, or Aunt Penny. I love and miss all three of you guys
but I must say I love and miss you most of all!
Do you remember,
years ago, when we played ‘I Spy' and it was something grey . . .the few
grey hairs on Dad's head?! Now it could be something black . . .
the few black hairs on his head! Mardi is still the same gullible,
sweet little sister you remember. And I do mean little! Daryl
is your little brother only because of his age. He is almost as tall
as you right now. Can you believe it?! And me? Well,
I try to be my funny self but it just isn't as easy as it used to be.
Someday the ‘old me' will return and will you all be sorry!
Well, I guess
that's all I have to tell you. Except, of course, that I love you!!
LOVE,
MOM

From:
Grandma Schwartz
You left us
all so suddenly
We did not
get our farewells to thee.
We will always
love you, good or bad
We tried our
best, as if you were all we had.
It was not
enough as you can see
So be as happy
as you can be.
No bad things
will be there;
You can be
you without a care.
Say hello
to people who have left before,
But rules
you must not ignore.
We will see
you one day;
Until then
be good and pray.
IN MEMORY OF
MY BROTHER:
DEAR HARLAN,
I've never
gone this long
Without talking
to you.
I miss hearing
your voice,
I miss your
crazy stories,
And your dry
humor.
How am I supposed
to act
Without you
around anymore?
You meant
the world to me.
Even though
I didn't always say
Or show you:
I LOVED YOU!
But right before
things were
Getting better,
You left me,
No chance
to say good-bye.
No chance
to tell you how much you meant.
We both have
been through so much,
And now I
have to suffer through life without you.
I just hope
and pray that you are finally happy
And free where
you are now.
And just always
remember:
I LOVE YOU
AND MISS YOU DEARLY!
