The Oneida County Fire Chief's Association
was formed in 1941 after the attack at Pearl Harbor at the request of then
Governor Lehman. The Governor requested that chiefs associations be formed
throughout the state and that a mutual aid system be formed. The Governor
feared that New York State would be a prime target during the war and a
mutual aid agreement would enable Fire Departments from nearby communities
to move into vital areas and assist in case of emergencies. Currently
the association has nearly 800 members. The Association is made up of the
51 Fire Departments of Oneida County, 9 Fire Departments from neighboring
counties, past and present fire officers. The Association
meetings are held monthly at different
Fire Departments within the county. The Association brings to its members
the latest in fire fighting training, and equipment with training
seminars and an equipment show
in October.
