About New London Volunteer Fire Dept.

New London is Located in the Heart of New York State, Oneida County. We are a small Fire Dept Located between the Cities of Rome and Oneida. We are one of 52 Fire Dept's dispatched by Oneida County 911. We operate out of 1 Station located in the Village and are lead into action by 1 Fire Chief, 2 Deputy Chiefs, 2 Assistant Chiefs. We Protect approximately 5,000 people in a 50 Square Mile area Known as Fire District #4 which include the hamlets of Churchville, Stacy's Basin, and Higginsville which is mostly all rural area with no fire hydrants in any of our district, so we have to rely on water pumped out of rivers and creeks. We have 2 major bodies of water we cover the Barge Canal, and the Erie Canal this is our major water source for all fires. We cover 2 Locks on the Barge Canal Lock 21 and Lock 22 which sees alot of Pleasure as well as Commercial traffic thru the Locks and up and down the canal each year. During major Fires or Incidents we can rely on our neighboring Dept's for help Verona, Durhamville, Vienna, Sylvan Beach, City of Rome, North Bay.
