Each member of the group will choose one of the following topics to research. Your written report will include the answers to the questions listed under each topic. Topic A.: Layers of the Forest 1. Describe the different layers of the forest. 2. What plants and animals live in each layer? 3. How do living organisms adapt to the forest habitat? Topic B: Forest Food Chains (If your group has 4 members, this topic can be split between 2 students.) 1. How do living organisms survive in the forest? 2. What is a producer? Give examples of producers in the forest. 3. What is a primary consumer? Give examples of primary consumers in the forest. 4. What is a secondary consumer? Give examples of secondary consumers in the forest. 5. What is a decomposer? Give examples of decomposers in the forest. 6. Which animals are the predators and which animals are the prey in the forest? 7. Describe and diagram some examples of food chains in the forest. 8. Describe what would happen to each member of this food chain if one member became extinct. Topic C: Impact of People on the Forest 1. What impact do people have on the natural habitat of a forest? 2. What are some examples of problems caused by people on forests? 3. How can we solve these problems? As you research the answers to these questions, take notes on index cards. After you have finished your research, you will decide what order to put your cards in. Then you will write a draft of the report. After you have revised and edited the draft, you will type your report. You and your group will decide what information to include in your oral presentation. Your group will also decide what type of visual presentation(s) you will use, such as a mural, chart, samples, etc.
