     Proclamation of Neutrality 1793

 

     Citizen Genet Affair 1793:

          

     Jay Treaty: the "sell out to the Brits"

           helps U.S. avoid war with Brits

     Pinckney's Treaty 1795:

           Spain feared U.S./British alliance

           agreed that:

                Mississippi is western U.S. border

                31st parallel is southern border

                rights of Navigation and deposit

 

     Farewell Address 1796:

           urged commerical relations with all

           "steer clear of entangling alliances

           with any portion of the foreign world"

 

           U.S. followed this policy until 1949

           when we joined with N.A.T.O.
