without God

I just saw a movie which struck me as so depressing as to wonder why the director/producers made it. If I wasn't a believer and saw that movie it would have torn my heart in two. So I must write this because I think that movie leaves one with an utterly hopeless feeling.

Without God there is no hope. This is the world - this is that movie. Creation without God is utterly meaningless. For centuries humans always thought there was an absolute - an absolute standard, an absolute truth, and absolute reference frame - for every thing. However, since the discovery of relativity during the modern physics era, humans have continued to slide down the ladder. Today almost anything goes. Marriage, friendship, family, religion, character, truth, ethics, and even courtesy are all being redefined as relative to the one who defines what that quality is at the moment they need to define it for themselves. In short the word 'I' is becoming god.

As such all is lost. There is no foundation, no roots, no history - no hope. Everything instantly becomes meaningless. This is ironic. The Bible says that everything is indeed meaningless. Sartre' was not the first to discover this. If you read Ecclesiastes it is clearly mentioned in there. So indeed while this movie leaves one hopeless, there is still hope - with faith in Christ.

Now belief in God is not enough. Many religions have a god they worship. Some even say it's money, while others admit that people are "gods." All of this is on the wrong path. There is only One Holy LORD God Almighty. He is the God of Israel, and - this is the key - His Son is Jesus Christ. But in today's world there is still a difference between saying you are a Christian and knowing that the Bible is God's Holy, unerring, written Word.

John 1:1 - 18

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God — 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' " 16 From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.

And so you see that if you have faith in Christ - a faith that allows you to know His Holy Word is True, then you are indeed with hope.

May God richly bless you and yours, with a faith that saves, in Jesus' name, amen.
All glory to God!
