what counts

John 6:63
The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.

All glory to God!

1 Corinthians 7:19
Keeping God's commands is what counts.

All glory to God!

1 John 5:1-5

  1. Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.
  2. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.
  3. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,
  4. for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
  5. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

All glory to God!

John 6:25-26

  1. When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?"
  2. Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.
  3. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval."

All glory to God!

John 6:47
I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.

All glory to God!

1 Corinthians 7:20-23

  1. Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him.
  2. Were you a slave when you were called? Don't let it trouble you --although if you can gain your freedom, do so.
  3. For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord's freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ's slave.
  4. You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.

All glory to God!

1 Corinthians 7:29-31

  1. What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none;
  2. those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep;
  3. those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.

All glory to God!

I just realized something that struck me very much as the single most important thing - a restatement of what counts - what it means to be a Christian.

This is it - just as Christ glorifies God our Father, we Christians should be glorifying Christ! I keep thinking "what should I do now (in this situation)?" or something related to that, putting off the deeper meaning of what it means to be a Christian - which is what I just said... this is how we should act in all cases...

we should glorify Christ
