the myth of life

Thursday, 5/27/10 at ~8 AM EST USA

Life is full of myths - ones that take our attention away from God.

These myths center around ourselves and all of the pleasures of the world.

I realized this while sinning against God - I was chasing a myth that only exists in one's mind. We really don't need them, but are addicted to them because they are the driving fotce which makes us who we are - to the world of others and in our own world - the 'who we are' - the one we call 'self'.

Now I understand this verse:

1 Corinthians 13:11 (NIV)

"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me."

All glory to God!

The word "child" is a metaphor for the person who is chasing these myths around as if they are important. The reason they are a child is that they are chasing myths. Thus the comparison to being a man - who chases after God's Word.

In the Old Testament, God told the Israelites that He was to be the center of all they did. If you always face the center, then you are "chasing" after the Word of God.

NOTE: the two verses are one and the same. The difference being that the NT is always the clarification of the OT, while the OT is the foundation of the NT.
