Proverbs 17:14
Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out. Don't start a quarrel, simply drop the dispute.

Proverbs 17:19
He who loves a quarrel loves sin; he who builds a high gate invites destruction. (Indeed, how many quarrels have I started in order to be "right." May God forgive me and teach me His ways, if He is willing, in Jesus' name, amen.)

Proverbs 17:17
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Rather it is better to love all (accept all since it is God's will) and accept adversity since it is God's will. Let God be your strength and who can defeat God's will?

Proverbs 17:27
A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered.

Proverbs 17:28
Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue. So this is when and how we should open our mouths:

  1. do not seek revenge,
  2. do not be combative,
  3. keep your temper even,
  4. speak with restraint,
  5. speak with discernment, and
  6. know when to speak and know when to be silent.

And to place a cap on this issue:
Ecclesiastes 5:2
Do not be quick with your mouth,
do not be hasty in your heart
       to utter anything before God.
       God is in heaven
       and you are on earth,
so let your words be few.

2 Timothy 2:3-4
3 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs — he wants to please his commanding officer.

From the Old to the New - the Word has not changed. For He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

All glory to God!
