Son of man

Sabbath, 12/26/09, 08:18 AM EST USA
This phrase has long alluded my understanding. But by God's grace this morning I have finally come to understand what it means.

Son of man: basically a human, or one born in the line of 'man'

Genesis 2:7 the use of "man"

NIV: "...the LORD God formed the man* from the dust of the ground..."

*(Biblegateway.com footnote):
The Hebrew for man (adam) sounds like and may be related to the Hebrew for ground (adamah) it is also the name Adam (see Gen. 2:20).

YLT: "... God formeth the man -- dust from the ground, ..."

It seems to me that indeed this is the correct understanding of the phrase - for man came up from the ground, flesh, and so was our LORD God's image, Jesus Christ, made in this form.

So the way I understand it now is that this nomenclature is used for Christ to remind us of His being made flesh and having walked among us.

So the very word "man" means the ground, the flesh, the world.

Amazing.

All glory to God!
