NIV vs KJV

Sometimes the wording in the KJV is too cumbersome for me. The NIV ( New International Version) is a new fresh translation by a committee of modern scholars. They have used newly discovered manuscripts from an earlier date of those available to the monks who translated the Bible into what is known as the KJV ( King James Version).

One can see form the modern translation of the NIV that it follows closely that of the KJV. (Many people take up arms against this new version because it excludes verses that are present in the KJV. But as an intelligent person, if you found a manuscript which was written years before another manuscript, and that earlier manuscript had added verses, wouldn't you be suspicious of the added lines? No one is to add or subtract lines to God's Holy Word. So since the earlier manuscripts do not have the lines from later manuscripts - which the monks used - then it seems natural to me to excluded those verses from the translation. However, what the NIV committee has done is to include those lines as a footnote with just such a comment about how the text wasn't in an earlier written manuscript.

All glory to God!
