"Melanie!" Her friend yelled back. They ran up to each other and hugged. "I'm so glad that you decided to move here!"
"Me too!" She hugged her again. "Oh kids, come here!" We all groaned and drug ourselves over to where they stood. "Jane, I'd like you to meet David, Caroline, Katrina, and Sam. Kids, this is my friend Jane. We're going to be staying with her for a while while we wait for our furniture to be sent."
"Why did we have to move any way? I liked that house and I liked remembering dad." I said coldly.
"Katrina!" She nearly slapped me like she usually does, but because we were in front of someone else, she said, "Get into the car." I rolled my eyes and hopped into my side of the car. She was really pissing me off so I dug through my purse and found some deep black eyeliner. I took it and drew a big, thick line down the back of the driver's seat. It was not the only one there, I had done this before, but the others were almost invisible on the blue fabric because they had repeatadly been washed.
Sam and Caroline slid in. Caroline was seated behind the driver's seat and looked at what I did and sighed. David ans my mom got in. My mother instantly knew what I had done. She was also mad about my remark, so she turned around and slapped me across the face. "You little bitch!" she shouted, but not quite loud enough for people outside of the car to hear.
"You know if daddy were around, he wouldn't let you treat me like this!" I screamed back at her. I quickly opened my door and got out. I slammed it and starting walking away.
"Why do you have to treat her like such shit?" I heard David yell at our mom. Then I heard him get out of the car and run up to me. "Come on Kat, let's see if Jane will let you ride with her." He guided me over to her car and Jane rolled down her window. "Would you mind if Kat rode with you?"
"Ceratinly not, what happened to your face, sweetheart?"
I let David answer for me. "Her and Caroline got in a fight and my mom wanted to split them up."
"Oh, poor sweetie. Hop in." I walked around to the passenger's side and got in. Jane smiled at me and started up her car. David got back in with mom and we all drove off to Jane's house.
"Yeah, I know! It's so hard to keep clean!" She joked. She typed in some code in a little box and then both of our cars drove in and the gates shut quickly behind us.
We stopped in front of the house and got out. Jane lead us in the door and showed us where to put our stuff. She pressed an intercom button. "Kids, down here now. My friend Melanie is here with here kids."
Soon 5 kids showed up in the livingroom. "Kids, this is Melanie and her children David, Sam, Caroline, and Katrina. These are my children, Leslie, Angel, Nick, B.J., and Aaron. Beeje, why don't you show them to their rooms and I'll show Melanie to where sh will be staying." Jane was so nice. I almost wanted to cry in regret that she wasn't my mother and Melanie was.
B.J. gave me a room done up in all baby blue. Wow, these people have such a great taste in style! I tossed my stuff to the side and feel down onto the king size bed. I looked up at the ceiling. There was a really cool skylight right above my bed. I sat up and looked around the room. It looked like I was staying at some fancy French hotel.
A knock sounded at my door. "Come in." I said.
One of the girls walked in...um..."Hi, I'm Angel." That's it. Angel.
"Hey, I'm Kat."
"How old are you? I'm 12 and so is Aaron. We're in 8th grade.
"I'm 14... and so is Caroline and we are in 9th grade." I answered. She began looking cloesly at my face.
"Oww, what happened to your face?"
"I got in a fight with my sister." I lied. She cringed and touched her own face. I really wanted to change the subject...um...what to say, what to say...
"Your older is really hot." Angel said out of nowhere. I could care less about what we were talking about, as long as it wasn't my face.
"Ewe, I'm sorry, but I just don't see it." We both laughed.
The boy...Aaron? Yeah, that sounds right...well any way, he stuck his head into the room through the doorway. "Supper's ready." When Angel turned to give me a come motion, he smiled at me.
We went downstairs and I heard David and...Nick? Yeah, Nick, yell in unison, "Hamburgers!"
As soon as everyone sat down at the table, we began to eat. Nick held out the plate of hamburger meat to me. "Uh...sorry, I don't eat meat..."
"Yes you do." My mother shot in.
"No I don't. Sorry, no thanks on the meat."
"It's alright Nick, she'll take a piece." My mother shot me a dark look.
"No thank you." Nick's face held such a confused look.
"It's alright Mrs. Paeton, we have salad, too." Nick went to pass the plate on, but my mother stopped him.
"She'll take this piece right here." She began oicking a piece of meat up with her fork.
"No thank you!" I stood up. "I'm sorry Mrs.Carter, but I need to be excused." I pushed my chair in and headed upstairs.
"I'll go get her, Mom." I heard David say. Soon I heard a knock at my door.
"Come in." I expected David, but...
"You ungreatful, rude little bitch!" My mother shut the door and walked over to where I sat on the bed. She went to slap me, but I pushed her away. "You little whore!" She walked back over to me and nearly slammed me onto the floor. She smacked me on the back twice before I heard someone burst through the door.
"Mom, stop!" I heard David say. Then I heard her walk awa from me and leave. David locked the door behind her and then quickly ran over to me. "Are you okay?"
"I think so..." I burst into tears and he wrapped his arms around me in a big hug after I had stood up. "Why is she like that! I never did anything to her!"
"I don't know, but don't worry. As soon as I'm 18 I'm gonna' get you away from her. Just one more month."
I looked up at him. "I don't know if I can take another month." I said. I burst back into tears and burried my face into his chest. This was going to be one long month.
