UPDATE 11/16/2007: We lost Fiona last night after an emergency c-section. Her labor stalled out after the first two babies were born, and the babies were not descending. We took her to a veterinary hospital, and they x-rayed her, gave her oxytocin, and eventually had to preform the c-section. Although she was stable before leaving the hospital, she didn't survive the ride home. We do not believe this was related to her being hairless. Fiona was an absolute sweetheart who loved to have her feelers on her face rubbed. We miss you, Fiona.

Fiona is currently our only hairless girl. She is of breeding age, approximately 11 months, and has successfully raised a litter in the past. We are hoping that using a hairless female without lactation problems will improve the breedability of our line.

She has standard (top) ears and very nice clear pink skin. She does not have any scarring. Scarring can also be a common problem in hairless rats due to the lack of protection their bare skin provides. Fiona has a great temperament and personality. She absolutely loves being rubbed on the side of her head, and will brux and goggle her eyes when you pet her.

Fiona is a master stasher also. When food goes into the cage, Fiona is the first one to grab it, but the last to eat it. She will run from the top of the cage to the bottom, and hide her food. Then she repeats the process, but by the time she gets back, someone else will have grabbed what she stashed. We always make sure there is plenty of food available so that everyone gets full and she has a chance to eat her stash.
