MEET THE TEACHER

I am Mrs. Zimmerman and I am one of five mathematics teachers at the Academy of American Studies. I am also the Internship coordinator here at the Academy, so if you are interested in an internship, come to see me in Room 20 South or the South Campus Teacher's Room (Rom 9) or drop a note in my mailbox in Room 107.

This is my sixth year teaching at the Academy. I love teaching here. We are all fortunate to be a part of this wonderful school!

More about me:

My husband and I have four sons, three daughters-in-law, and seven grandchildren, ages 1 through 10 years old.

I enjoy the outdoors, particularly the east coast's beautiful ocean beaches.

Before entering the teaching profession, I spent 30 years in the computer programming field in various positions ranging from junior programmer to director of programming.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics from Hunter College and completed graduate level teacher certification at Queens College. I have a Master of Science in Education with a specialty in Implementing Technology in the Classroom. I'm really excited about our new portable wireless computer labs!

In my free time, I like to read fiction. I am currently reading 'To Live' by Yu Hua. I also love to cook and listen to a wide variety of music, such as Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Bobby Darin, Billie Holiday, The Eagles, Miles Davis, Mose Allison, Herbie Hancock, and traditional Irish music.
