Devotional on Romans 15:13 [NIV]:

- As shared by Rev Don Schink, (C) 2005
“ May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. ”
It’s a trust
issue. We face it everyday. If we trust in the right things, we’ll take
the right actions based on that trust to get where need to go. For example, I got up this morning and as I
was getting ready to go out the door to go to work, I dropped into the chair in
my study to do a few quick tasks. I
trusted it to hold me up. It never
crossed my mind not to trust the chair.
I do it everyday. If the chair
breaks and I go crashing to the floor, then maybe I’d have 2nd
thoughts next time. But I dropped into
it, simply trusting that it would be OK.
I went out
and confidently started my truck. The
engine turned over and popped into action, just as I expected. Then I turned on my radio and listened for
the latest traffic report from Lisa, who gives those reports every 10 minutes,
so that commuters know the trouble spots to avoid. Assuming that I keep my vehicle maintenance up-to-date, I have
faith that it will get me to where I want to go.
It’s the
same in our walk with the Lord. If we
want to be truly joyful and at peace, then we need to place our absolute trust
in His that He, as our precious Savior and Lord, loves and cares for us enough
that He is more than willing to give us His best. That doesn’t promise that things will always go as expected. But it does mean that even through the rough
stuff, - those tough times that we all experience, - He will never leave nor
forsake us, true to His Word.
It’s a trust
thing. The Bible says that God is the
same, yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
He always has been. He is. He always will be. We have faith in Him as the true Source of our blessed hope that
He will carry us through whatever we face, from now on into eternity. Why?
He said so. Also, He has sent
the Holy Spirit to be our Comforter and our Guide, as He teaches, guides and
directs us in our daily walk as we place our faith in Him to do so.
Philippians 1:6 relates, “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” So, learn to lean on Jesus, more and more. He deeply loves you and me. He knows our hearts and motives better than we do. So have faith that He is working out what is best for each of us daily. It’s a trust thing. So, let’s just do it.
