“He’ll Do it – Guaranteed!”
3”I
thank my God every time I remember you. 4In all my prayers for all
of you, I always pray with joy 5because of your partnership in the
gospel from the first day until now, 6being confident of this, that
he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of
Christ Jesus.”
- Philippians 1:3-6 [New International Version]
My dad was really handy at quite a variety of projects. He was always working on mechanical or
construction projects. He was very
talented. In fact, he quite often had
several of these projects going at the same time. However, he also suffered from health problems so he didn’t
always feel all that well. Then he died
at what most would consider a fairly young age, while I was still in high
school. He left several unfinished
projects. He had always meant to finish
them but didn’t do so, some due to health problems, some due to the cost of
materials, and so on.
In Philippians, the Bible reveals that Paul is extremely excited
about the work going on among these people.
There were lots of good things to consider while addressing these
people. Paul prayed for them regularly. As he did, he loved to recall their
faithfulness in sharing the gospel.
Overall, it seems that these people were decent believers who were
committed to the cause of Christ. As
such, Paul is writing to encourage them.
He wrote, “being confident of this, that He Who
began a good work in you will carry it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
That is a good word for you and me, today, as well. We can get bogged down with daily
activities. We can be so busy with
being legitimately busy that we can actually become tired, even a bit
discouraged, by taking our eyes off of the reason for doing what we do. Interestingly enough, it seems that the
Lord’s best work is accomplished through tired people.
We love Him because He first loved us. We joyfully serve out of what I like to call “an attitude of
gratitude,” as the reality of so great a love that our Savior and Lord has for
us, resulting in our salvation. With
this salvation also comes the word that He is with us for the long haul. Paul wants the Philippians to remember, -
While others may abandon
us, the Lord does not do so. He’ll finish
what He’s started!
Our confidence is in the Cross of Christ and Calvary… and the fact that we serve a risen Savior and Lord Who constantly sits at the right hand of God, making intercession for each of us, as the Holy Spirit works in our hearts and lives daily, constantly nurturing, guiding, directing and enabling us to be all that we can be in Him. So, take heart. Our confidence is not in ourselves, but it is in Christ Jesus, our precious Savior and Lord, as He saves and sanctifies us to the uttermost. He didn’t call us to failure. He Who started with us will carry us all the way from now to eternity, as long as we are willing to live yielded to Him, allowing Him to empower us for life and for service. You and I can count on it. He’ll do it!
Please note:
You are welcome to share this message in your local churches, home fellowship Bible studies, etc., but I suggest that you personalize it. You do not have permission to publicize it to make money from it in any form. May God richly bless you as you minister for Him with rich spiritual rewards of seeing many souls saved and sanctified for all eternity! Please let me know whatever helpful results you may get from this!
