YOU’RE A TRINI WHEN…

You refer to an avocado to a "zabora".

You get "vexted" and not "angry".

You point with your lips.

You wash "wares" after a meal.

You call hanging out "liming".

You call all hot drinks "tea".

You say I don’t know by raising your shoulders.

You shorten sentences,

like "Whatahsayin" or "Whahappenin".

You refer to pop and soda as "sweet drinks".

You say "Old year’s Night" instead of "Newyear’s Eve".

You show disappointment by "steupsing".

You speak of leaving your hair "open" instead of "loose".

You reach where you’re going at least an hour late.

You like eating doubles for breakfast.

You say "twentAY: (20) instead of "twentEE" like the rest of the world.

You say "boy" to everyone, usually at the beginning of a sentence.

You call people by saying "pssst".

You nod your head upwards to greet someone.

You call any hard candy "sweetie".

You end a sentence with "man".

Youstart gearing down for the weekend by lunchtime on Friday.

Peace

When Rose vex‚ she only pelting stone at de house —Bim! Up in de mango tree with she bloomers to de wind

Mummy cyaan reach she‚ so instead must chase Ann Who run bawling‚ “Oh Jesus!” and get licks for that!

Ann run under de house‚ Mummy now looking fuh switch and bawling fuh Christ like de two-facey she is From next door come Granny like corbeau to de scene In patois squawking‚ “S’ak passe? Ou couté la fille?”

Mummy commence to take on Granny‚ cussing fuh so‚ interfere with she life and she child like one mako.

Ann run to de tree‚ cry‚ “Rose! Jesus! Please!” But Rose‚ she eyes wild‚ pulling a mango free

Daddy‚ rum drunk in de parlor‚ now start to rouse by dese women and children bawling round he house

“One set a ladiablesse in de blasted yard! Can’t a man get some —” Rose throw de mango hard!

Daddy slip on a rock-stone she pelt on de steps — Mummy‚ Granny‚ sucking teeth in one long stchupsss — Ann still bawling‚ begging‚ “Rose stop it please!” Then mango fall‚ Daddy fall‚ eight eyes turn — Peace.

Sista to Sista What makes me strong? My heritage What makes me weak? My fears What makes me whole? My God What keeps me standing? My faith What makes me compassionate? My selflessness What makes me honest? My integrity What sustains my mind? My quest for knowledge What teaches me all lessons? My mistakes What lifts my head high? My pride What if I can`t go on? Not an option What makes mevictorious? My courage to climb What makes me competent? My confidence What makes me sensual? My insatiable essence What makes me beautiful?
