Current Project:
For 2006-2007 we will be funding a midwife training program in Vavatenina, Madagascar. The project is being headed by a former Corcoran High School alum., Peace Corps volunteer Patrick Gannon.

The high infant mortality rates in the outlying villages around Vavatenina constitute the desperate need for midwives to be properly trained and dispersed where they are most needed. The desired outcome of the project will be the successful deployment of 36 midwives to 30 different villages, indirectly benefitting 9750 women.

The proposed training would take place 11-15 December, 2006. The trainees would meet in Vavatenina and have their meals and lodgings paid for by the PCPP. The training they would receive would contain information on safe and sanitary delivery practices and emergency management as well as pre- and post-natal care. We wish Patrick Gannon the best of luck with his project!

Since 1983-84 Corcoran High School of Syracuse, New York, has annually funded a Peace Corps Partnership Project. Over the years we have raised aproximatly $100,000 and funded 18 partnerships, including the construction of 6 primary schools, 2 Wells, 2 Maternity Hospitals, and the first school for the blind in all of central Africa.

This year's project is the 24th funded through the efforts of the students of Corcoran High School and Roberts Elementary School. It is the 22nd funded through the sale of student drawn notecards.

In addition to the annual publication of student drawn note cards, students participate in cross-cultural exchanges with the villagers, exchanging letters, photos, and artifacts. [Click for More]

One Village at a Time.

In early October the Peace Corps sent several documentary film makers to film our club and record the contribution we make to our community. A summary along with several photographs are included. See the full story here.

Also, back in August, we were featured in the PC Times. See a summary of the feature here.

Have a happy holiday season, and please consider ordering a set of notecards or shirt for that special someone! Not only do they make great gifts, but they also help to make somebody else's life a little brighter!

Please consider giving a donation, buying a t-shirt, or purchasing a set of student drawn notecards to help us reach our $3,000 goal. They make terrific gifts. One satisfied customer from Texas liked them so well that she once ordered $960 worth (and rounded her check off to $1,000.) We are not asking you to like us that much ...but every bit helps us to provide funding for our future Peace Corps Projects!
