Names I am researching. Miller, Meunier, Stay, Staves, Clark, Snow, Perrot, Fyans
Following is a synopsis of my Millers, who I believe originated in Canada as did many others from the Clinton County area:
MILLER Family
John MILLER. His wife may be Sweeney SNEIDER.
Notes: Listed as being Fr Can and 66 years old in 1850 census.
I see Sweeneys used as last name in that area so I am confused. There is a Jane listed in 1850 census as being 59 as well.
Robert may have had a brother John Jr.
Robert MILLER (my ggrandfather)
Born: Dec 13.1833 in Ausable Forks, Clinton Co; Died: Jan 23, 1915 in Ausable
Married: March 5, 1852 to Julia STAY.
Notes: Lived on the Ausable River Road leading to the JJ Rogers Paper Mill.
Use to come to New Brunswick to hunt in later years.
Lost arm in Spotsylvania Battle 1864.
Robert Miller lived across the road from the Stays according to one census.
He was listed as a butcher. He did enter the civil war twice, once at Gettysburg and then Spotsylvania. Both times entered the Vermont Volunteers, why? Did NY not have brigades?
Julia STAY was born in Black Brook, Dec 4, 1829. She died in Ausable Forks Jan 11, 1832.
Julia STAY's father is Joseph STAY, born 1803.
Mother is Elizabeth born 1810.
Both born in Canada, somewhere.
Children of Robert MILLER & Julia STAY:
Dorthia MILLER b. 1870 Dorthia, is sometimes listed as Dora.
Delia MILLER b. 1854 d.1878 Married Alexander PERROT Nov 22,1878 at Holy Name Church. Perrot may have been PERRAULT.
Livica MILLER b. 1855
Laura MILLER b. 1860 Laura may have moved off to Salsbury beach.
Angeline MILLER b. 1869
Albert MILLER b. 1865 d. 1950 married Elizabeth SNOW
Albert moved off to Mass
Notes: Some of the family names that still remain in that area, Havens, Bosley, Skelton, Blaise, Hawk, Wright, Gonyea and Snow, and many more.
Albert's and Elizabeth Snow's children I believe were all boys, eight of them, and all were born in Ausable and moved off to Mass, Vermont and other areas. Their names all begin with the letter R.
Walter MILLER b. 1876 d. 1931 Married Annie IRVING from the Chatham New Brunswick Notes: They moved back to the Ausable area around 1906 - stayed in the Ausable area. Walter built his home in what is known as the Jersey area. He built many homes in that area. He was killed in a car accident in 1931, his wife had passed away in 1929
Mark MILLER b. 1878 Supposed to have moved to Newbury Port, Mass.
John Lucian MILLER 1872/1949 (my grandfather)
Fred(Alfred) MILLER - John Lucian's twin who died in 1938. Stayed in the Ausable area.
Note: All children were born in Ausable Forks, probably all Baptised at Holy Name Church in Ausable Forks. Interesting thing is that my Grandfather John Lucian joined the Canadian Army in Chatham NB with my father George Stanley MILLER 1917. He may have had dual Citizenship? I know nothing more about the girls, I do have a lot of info on the boys except for Mark who is supposed to have moved to Newbury Port Mass.
Notes: As far as I can tell my grandfather John Lucian MILLER, and his brothers (Walter MILLER and Fred MILLER) moved off to Northern New Brunswick, Canada. They married New Brunswick girls, had children there, including my Dad. Fred MILLER and Walter MILLER came back to Ausable, but my grandfather went to Detroit/Windsor area to work.
STAY Family
Joseph STAY, born 1803 married Elizabeth ? born 1810.
Both born in Canada, somewhere.
Children of Joseph & Elizabeth STAY:
Julia MILLER b. 1829 Julia STAY was born in Black Brook, Dec 4, 1829. She died in Ausable Forks Jan 11, 1832.
Salinda MILLER b. 1837
Laura MILLER b. 1837
Almira MILLER b. 1842
Emma MILLER b. 1849
Elizabeth MILLER b. 1842
Notes: All born in Ausable.
I have seen STAY as STAVES, STAI and possibly ESTE. In fact, the family is listed as STAVES in the 1850 census.
