In addition to Barmann, Hoffmann and Hauck there were many other brewers in the Kingston and Rondout area. Many just faded away, some became Barmann and Hauck. I have listed some of the breweries that I found in old directories. I don't have anything to show from them.
Kingston and Rondout NY Direcrtories have shown the following Brewers:
Ads in the 1871 directory showed the Kingston Enterprise Brerwery as a brewer of Imperial XXX & Amber Cream Ales.
Ads in the 1872-73 directory showed the Kingston Steam Brewery as brewing XX and XXX ales and having a "regular supply" of XX and XXX Pales and Diamond Ales and Porter. I'm told by a relative of James Cummings that, James died in 1912 and the brewery was breifly run by his wife. The brewery closed shortly thereafter. James Cummings also had two brothers in Middletown New York that had a distillery that produced Apple Jack whiskey. The Middletown brothers exported their goods via on their privately owned barges on the Erie Canal. On their return trip they imported similar goods (distilled alcohol beverages) from other western states. The Kingston City Steam Brewery was a four story brick building. The building no longer exists, a laudrymat now occupies that location.
That same directory showed both Schwalbach and Stephan's as Lager Bier Breweries.
Here are two photos of the F Stephan Brewery in South Rondout.
Here is a beer bottle from Weber's, an Albany brewer. It was bottled for a local hotel owner, John Worf Hotel of Rondout NY. The Hotel used to be located on Abeel St in Rondout.
I am always looking to add to my collection of Kingston and Rondout Breweriana. If you have anything from Kingston or Rondout NY for sale and are willing to part with it, please let me know, I will give it a good home.
Thank you for visiting my page at Angelfire. If you have any other information in regards to this brewery or any others from Kingston or Rondout NY. I would greatly appreciate the help and give the appropriate credit. Please stop by and visit again!
