news223/ Phillies vs. Mets Preview - Battle At Red Bull [09.27.04]mon.[11:44 PM]
The Philadelphia Phillies (11-2) will play the New York Mets (13-6) in a winner takes all one game Division Series playoff game. The two teams meet in regular season back on july 11th when the Phillies won 8-4 at RCC when Raydogg made his Phillies debut and in his first at bat hitting a 3-run homerun. Osgood and as well as Parnell all going yard that day. All three homeruns were surrendered off the best ranked player in the 2003 fall draft, Bob London who was drafted 4th to the Mets and made his debut against the Phillies that day and went 3 IP, 6 K, 6 H, 6 R, 4 BB, 3 HRA and threw 42 of 80 pitches for strikes (53%). Sloppy debut we must say but had the strikesouts going. Carey Sandro and Marty Gonzalez both went yard for the Mets including one HR (Gonzalez) hit it off a Raydogg, that being his onyl run he gave up all season. We hear that the playoff match-up is scheduled to be Brett Bernard (PHI) vs. James Garzia (NYM). James will be making his debut on the mound in Philly. John Goolin who took over for Raydogg as the Mets skipper has a lot riding on his back. The media has stated that if Garzia pitched horribly in the first inning then Goolin could very well be fired as the manager after leading his team to the playoffs in his first season because he is trusting the young kid against the defending National League Champions in a one game playoff. Goolin did say that he'll be having Bob London, Sherman Haines, Ron Jackson, and Curt Bell (if a Met) warm up in the bullpen during the first inning because they may need a pitcher after the first batter of the game. We hear that Garzia's control is decent, it's better than Curt Bell's but not as fast said some critics. As of right now this is the Mets starting line-up against the Phantasy Phillies.
