Directions

Looking Glass Falls can be seen on the east side of U.S. route 276 in the Pisgah National Forest. The Falls is about 4 miles north of the ranger station, which is just north of Brevard. The area is popular and well-signed, so it is hard to miss. This stretch of 276 runs north-south from the Blue Ridge Parkway to Brevard; Looking Glass Falls is found easily from either direction. A short path leads down to the base of the falls from the parking area.

Description

While you can get a pretty good view of Looking Glass Falls from the roadside, you will want to walk down the steps for the better view at the base of the falls. The walk is very short and not too steep. The picture on this page was taken further back from the base of the falls, after I walked down the stream a bit on some rocks.

There are almost always a ton of people at this falls. Also, I don't find it particularly attractive. It is nice, of course, but somewhat plain. The water falls 60 feet over a crest that is about half that wide. Because of the smooth nature of the cliff face, Looking Glass Falls looks almost like a 60 x 30 feet rectangle of white. Being so easily accessible, though, the falls are worth the visit, especially if you don't mind the crowds.

Looking Glass Falls is just one mile south of Moore's Cove Falls on U.S. 276. In addition, Courthouse Falls and Twin Falls are also in this same general area of Pisgah National Forest.
