No war in the history of the United States of America, including the American Revolution in 1776, continues to have such a strong emotional connection to so many people in our great country today.  The war of brother against brother is forever etched in the hearts of many Americans.  The goal of these pages is to present the civil war in a simple way .  It is our hope to spark an interest in others.  This web page is a tribute to the men and women of the Civil War from both sides of the battlefield -- all red-blooded Americans -- whose sacrifices will not be forgotten.

This is a joint effort of my daughter, Debbie Reed -- who is new to
the study of the Civil War -- and I (her dad) whose study of the Civil War has been a long-time interest.  I may be the family expert, but that's as far as it goes. We are looking forward in the coming months to bringing many people to This
Hallowed Ground, and sharing the desire to look deeper into the study of the
Civil War.  wao

A special thank you to my Dad, Walter Otto, whose passion for the Civil War has been passed on to me by our numerous visits to Gettysburg and other historic sites throughout the years.  He never believed that unknown tourist we overheard once say, "You've seen one fort; you've seen 'em all.", and neither do I.  We hope you enjoy your visit.   dsr
