2003-04 Tournaments

Thanksgiving Weekend Touranment
Strong Island took a trip to Hershey Pa., November 2003 to compete in a Thanksgiving Weekend Tournament. It was a interesting time for all involved. A number of injuries made it difficult for the already short benched team. The team had one win, one tie, and two losses.

Presidents Weekend Tournament
Strong Island hockey was away Presidents day weekend for a tournament in Oaks PA. After a lackluster first day of a lose and tie, the team rallied towards the end, winning their next two games to put them into second place were they would finish, walking away with the silver.

NHL Hockey Rules Tour
Strong Island hockey was home for a rare home tournament. The tournament was hosted by the NHL and located at the
Rinx in Hauppauge the first weekend in April. The team was open to all players within the organization that wanted to play. With Can/Am just a week away many of the players were focused on working out the kinks in the game that would allow the team to take the gold in Lake Placid. Tom Gang won a gold medal in the Accuracy competiti0n.

Can/AM Easter Weekend
The time had finally come for Strong Island Ice Hockey to revenge their bronze finish last year in Lake Placid. After dropping the first game of the tournament 2-1 to the Illinois Grizzlies' the team rebounded nicely to win their next 4 games by a combined score of 13 to 6. In the gold medal game on the 1980 Olympic ice surface, Strong Island played a solid game against the grizzlies, winning in double overtime on a goal by Bobby Corwin. It was a very dramatic game which included a penalty shot in the first overtime period that was stopped by goalie, Eric Silverstein. Stats for the tournament are posted here. Photos of the team with their Gold medals will be posted soon. So be sure to check back. Photos from the tournament are posted on the pictures page, so check them out.
