Pastor Mark grew up in Oberlin, Kansas (Decatur County) (view map).

He is a 1993 graduate with degrees in Political Science and Germanic Languages and Liturature from the University of Kansas (GO JAYHAWKS!), located in Lawrence, Kansas, and a 2000 graduate with a Masters of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary, located in St. Paul, Minnesota.

During his education at the University of Kansas, Pastor Mark spent three summers working at Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp, located on the northern border of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. This is where he first received the call from God to be a pastor.

From September 1993-May 1996, Pastor Mark was the Youth Director at St. John's Lutheran Church, located in Salina, Kansas, under the leadership of the Rev. Charles Aase. This experience was integral for him as he discerned his call to ministry.

As part of his seminary education, Pastor Mark spent a year of internship at St. Luke's and Emanuel Lutheran Churches, located in Valatie and Stuyvesant Falls, New York. His internship supervisor there was the Rev. Jim Slater. During his final year of seminary studies, he spent a semester studying with the Washington Theological Consortium, located in Washington DC.

Another integral part of his seminary experience was a 3-month study trip to the southern African country of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is the Companion Synod to the Upstate New York Synod of the ELCA.

He is also an Oblate of Saint Benedict, affiliated with Saint John's Abbey in Collegeville, Minnesota.

Pastor Mark is currently enrolled part-time at Fordham University in pursuit of a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) Degree with a concentration in Pastoral Counseling.

On Sunday, August 10, 2003, Pastor Mark married Ms. Tonya Warner, a High School English Teacher at Taconic Hills Central School.
